The Governing Body of Stanbridge Earls School is delighted to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Trythall as Headmaster from September 2010, in succession to Mr Geoffrey Link who retires in August. Mr Trythall was educated at the King’s School, Canterbury and at Stirling University, where he took a degree in history and politics. For nine years he held a commission in the Light Infantry, during which time he served in South Georgia and led a successful expedition in the Himalayas. He began his teaching career at Cheltenham College, where he was a day housemaster, contingent commander of the Combined Cadet Force and 1st XV rugby coach. In his next post at Gordonstoun School, he was a boarding housemaster, had responsibility for marketing and led a school party to Tanzania to take part in a development project and climb Kilimanjaro. Aged 48, Peter Trythall is currently a member of the senior management team at the Bolitho School, Penzance, Cornwall, where he is Head of Boarding and Head of Sixth Form. He is also responsible for sixth-form recruiting, ‘gap’ year students and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Outside school, is colonel commandant of the Cornwall Army Cadet Force.
Peter and Beth Trythall have two sons and two daughters aged 19 to 11. Beth is a qualified teacher and nurse. Since a small number of their close family are dyslexic or dyspraxic, they have long experience of the needs of pupils with special educational needs.
Chairman of Governors, David Beeby, said, “We are confident that Peter Trythall has the right qualities to lead this very unusual and successful School. He has energy, experience and a real empathy for those with special needs.”
