In Years 7 and 8 and 9 pupils follow the Key Stage 3 National Curriculum for Science. Major topics are taught and revisited to allow opportunities to consolidate and extend both knowledge and understanding. The curriculum is based around scientific enquiry with lots of investigations to develop problem solving skills and aims to prepare pupils for the challenges of GCSE Science. In the May of Year 9 the GCSE course is started to give pupils a head start.
In Years 10 and 11 we offer GCSE Core Science to all pupils. Those who wish to study Science at AS level, or who are able and have a particular interest in Science may opt for extra, timetabled lessons and gain a second GCSE in Additional Science. All three disciplines are studied at this level and are assessed by modular exams and internally assessed activities. This approach has been successful for most students.
We offer the Sixth Form AS and A2 qualifications in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.
