Exam Results
Whilst Stanbridge is not a school which devotes itself slavishly to exam performance and league tables we are none the less very proud of the results our pupils are obtaining despite the specific learning difficulties they face.
Our results this year have been the best ever with an overall pass rate of 53% at C or above with 42% gaining 5 GCSE’s and 35% 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths. With most of our children being diagnosed as Dyslexic or Dyscalculic, these results are exceptional.
However these results only tell half of the story as they do not reveal the background of the pupils and the struggles they will have had to obtain them.
Pupil A gained 1 A*, 3 A’s, 2B’s and a C despite the fact that he had extreme anxiety about schooling, because of previous failures and only returned to full time schooling at Stanbridge in Year 10 and this to start off, on a part time basis. His confidence gradually rose as he encountered support and success in the smaller classes here and these excellent results underline the journey he has made in such a short time.
Pupil B gained 3 A’s and 4 C’s despite having been written off in his previous selective independent school because he was seen as a failure. Confidence was boosted gradually and his real love of and ability at Maths and Science has been able to shine through.
Both of these pupils now have an excellent chance of success in the sixth form where previously the future had looked bleak.
Our sixth form were no less successful and all 12 pupils who had applied for University have been placed on their chosen courses.
Our two top performers have both gained entry to redbrick university’s, one to study Statistics at Reading, after obtaining an A, B and C whilst the other is off to Swansea to study Physics after getting two B’s and a C.
