leisure and sporting activities
We recognise the benefits our pupils gain from physical and mental challenges
that stretch their horizons. Scores of activities take place throughout
the week and at weekends, designed to challenge pupils and enable them
to develop new interests and skills. They include art, board games, chess,
climbing, debating, the magazine, maths, skateboarding (our own half-pipe),
skiing, snowboarding, trampolining and welding.
There are School clubs for team and individual sports. We have a large
playing field used for athletics, cricket, football and rugby, and a floodlit
area for basketball, netball and tennis. Indoors, there is a swimming
pool, with personal survival and life-saving instruction available, a
fitness training facility, a squash court and a well-equipped sports hall.
In addition to the daily sports and activities programme, pupils are
encouraged to take part in other curricular and extra-curricular pursuits
such as the orchestras and choir competitions, the School play, sailing
weekends, departmental visits, The Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme, World
Challenge expeditions and overseas trips including European and American
ski tours
and the South African Rugby Tour.
