Connexions is a free and confidential advice and guidance service for
all young people between the ages of 13 19 or up to 25 if they
have learning difficulties or disabilities. Connexions personal advisers
are professionally trained to help young people in a variety of ways.
The school PA is a specialist in guidance with many years of experience
of dealing with the pupils at Stanbridge Earls and understands the difficulties
they encounter. The work of the PA is fully integrated into the school
the PA enjoys a good working relationship with teaching and pastoral staff
and the schools health care professionals. There is a close working
relationship with the careers coordinator. This ensures a holistic approach
to all pupils needs.
Pupils have access to individual discussions in the careers room from
year 9 onwards.
Topics covered include:
-
Looking at course options for GCSE and beyond.
-
Helping to arrange work experience
-
Helping pupils who wish to enter work find suitable work and training.
-
Liasing with other agencies to ensure appropriate help is available
beyond education.
In addition the local personal adviser offers the following:
-
Attends transitional planning and annual reviews from year 9 onwards
for students with statements of special educational need.
-
Helps write careers action plan
-
Helps with applications for courses and employment and training opportunities.
Where a pupil is not living locally the personal adviser will also liase
with the home area personal adviser to ensure a smooth transition of service
for the young person. This is especially important for pupils with learning
difficulties and disabilities.
